This jam was a bit special as all participants were from the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). This group of 13 students recently returned from an overseas community project.

We had our first Facebook jam of the year!

Looking back at 2018, we are really happy with the result of our Facebook jams. We managed to get two restaurants to switch to sustainable palm oil and we reached out to more than 150 businesses!

The 27 January jam was a bit special as all participants were from the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). This group of 13 students recently returned from an overseas community project with Nature For Change at the buffer zone of the Leuser National Park, home to endangered species like the Orangutan, Sumatran Tiger and Sumatran Elephant.

After the usual reaching out activity, the group learnt how to run their own Facebook jams.

The Facebook Jam session gives me a sense of responsibility towards the environment. It also shows how just an ordinary person like me can make a change. This is especially after returning from a service learning trip where I learnt about negative impact of palm oil plantations, and I would want to share my knowledge and experience and also make a difference upon returning home. It feels rewarding when the restaurants or hotels respond or inquire more about the RSPO certified oil. I hope that through this channel, the owners will be more willing to learn about RSPO certified oil and make the switch!

Following on the success of November’s jam, the January session was organised by our volunteer Natalie.

Not everyone has the time to commit to an association/charity daily or even weekly. Our Facebook outreach jams take place once a month and are open to everyone!

February 13th and March 13th
join the foodie team!
